indulging…

Cheating. Splurging. Whatever you wish to call it... I personally like indulging. Did you think I expected you to go an entire six weeks without it?! No! If you can, your discipline is quite commendable! I’ll blame it on my womanhood, but my indulgence is chocolate. Mmmmm...

Don’t deny yourself just because you are Paleo or Paleo-ish for a few weeks. Au contraire. I do, however, have a few tips for your little treats! • Stay gluten-free. Nanomoles of gluten can wreck you for weeks... even if you are unaware. Save your intestines and indulge in gluten-free treats like corn tortillas, almond meal brownies (delicious), paleo apple muffins, gluten-free pancakes, or even creme brulee. Your gut flora, brain and metabolism will thank you for it... promise! • Eat some chocolate, but avoid high-fructose corn syrup, dairy and soy lecitin. Go as dark as possible with the ingredients of: cocoa mass, cocoa butter, sugar. The great thing about dark chocolate is that it is very rich. You cannot eat too much yet you are satisfied. I eat a 90% Lindt’s Dark Chocolate bar with little guilt and Clint enjoys the 70%. 70% is a good place to start, but if that is too dark, start where you can (at least 55%) and slowly increase over time. • Use high quality fats like Organic Coconut Oil, Macadamia Nut Oil, lard, or real butter to bake or fry with. Indulging is no excuse to wreck your system with high doses of dangerous omega-6 oils. • Stay away from High-Fructose Corn Syrup. High doses of fructose metabolizes like alcohol, so you might as well drink a beer instead of a coke. See this very informative video for a wonderful explanation. Although long, it is quite entertaining! Enjoy. Use honey or maple syrup instead of table sugar or agave. • If you are tolerant, have a scoop of ice cream. Dairy appears most harmful when coupled with gluten. A great idea is to get the child’s size scoop. It will satisfy your craving yet not overdo it enough to bother your system! Coconut Milk Ice Cream is a delicious alternative to the the intolerant... It is a boat full of sugar, but sure is delicious and dairy-free! • Don’t keep it in the house. Although Clint eats Fritos or Corn Chex when he’s out, I refuse to bring it in the house. Although these treats are less bad alternatives, they still produce the same effects as frankenfoods when eaten often. Do yourself a favor and indulge while you’re out or make just enough for the one meal. Don’t keep it in the house! What are your favorite indulgences? Comment below!
